If I were to craft a personality for 2020 based on the hand it has shown so far, it’ll have “sadist, psychopath, maniac” as some of its descriptions. And you know why. But this is not why we’re here.

In 2018 we started this tradition of taking a peep into the new year, a video showing all major events anticipated in the year and yes, we have published this 2020’s video too. Because we love to explore and experiment with different things, this year’s video saw a different animation technique; stop motion. If you recall, the 2018 video was created using a mix of negative space and inversed transition while for the 2019 video, we used the rotoscoping technique. A lot of work that was.

For this year’s video, the events depicted cut across entertainment, sports, science and other areas of general interest. Let’s have a quick look at some of the events featured in the video.

Leap Year

2020 is a leap year and what that means in salary-speak is an extra day excuse for HR not to pay in February. I promised myself I wouldn’t make a joke about people born February 29 and 4 a while there I almost did. But I’ll wait another four years.

Sonic The Hedgehog

This movie is supposed to come out on February 14 and is about a hedgehog bonding with a sheriff to fight malevolent forces. A thought came into my head now and I’m chuckle-huffing. Why? Judging from the number of dislikes the trailer has, it’ll give scorned lovers and itchy singles something to vent on rather than innocent couples having a nice time. Oh, you thought this was going to be some serious treatise? Ha ha.

Rio de Janeiro Carnival

Often said to be the biggest carnival in the world with millions of people in attendance, the Rio carnival is set to hold February 21 through 26. Not sure how that will be now though, considering the outbreak of Coronavirus.

Black Widow

Natasha Romanoff is FINALLY getting her movie after such a damned long wait. We accept the offering. Curious to see how Marvel worked around her death in Avengers; Endgame though. We await May 1 when it’ll be released.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run

What’s going to be released on May 22nd? That’s right, Keanu Reeves saying “I’m made out of a sage and I’m a sage” on screens. What, you’ve not watched the trailer? I’m nice, so here’s a link.

UEFA Euro 2020

A tournament like no other; 51 matches across 12 host nations. Many can’t wait to see how this plays out starting from July 12. You know what I can’t wait to see? The logo change.

Summer Olympics, Tokyo 2020

July 24, the start date is not here yet and already a lot of controversies and conspiracies are flying around. Safety concerns for participants courtesy the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, proposed ban of the rising sun flag, logo design plagiarism and so on. I don’t like drama but…

Godzilla vs King Kong

This movie’s release has been changed so many times it’s getting annoying. The current release date is November 20. Hopefully, it sticks. Who else is excited to see Millie Bobby Brown in it? Lover her since Stranger Things.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 5

Tentative release date of November 6 is out and it’s been confirmed by David “Vahn” Vonderhaar on Twitter that there’ll be no jetpacks. Flash thought; What will it be like Donald Trump in it?

US Presidential Election

So many are hoping this is the year the White House is cleared of orange hair. And over ten Democrats are putting weight behind this hope by vying for the US Presidency. Republicans? Three. Can’t wait to see who wins the race.

Dubai World Expo

The World’s Greatest Show”. I’m tempted to smirk at the declaration but considering the growth rate the UAE has shown so far, it doesn’t seem to be a far fetch. It is said there’s going to be a lot of innovation showcase and unlocking of potentials so, maybe Nigeria can benefit?

Let’s stop here because the number of events on the list is on the hefty side and you’ll have more fun watching it as a video. Among other events featured in the video are; the Ethiopian general elections [August 16], Winter X Games [January 23 - 26], World Track Championships [February 26 - March 1], Affordable Art Fair [February 7 - 9] and others.

While nobody foresaw the events that shook and is still shooking worlds in the year of January this 2020, events like #Okadaban, Megzit, Iran- US war scare, Kobe’s helicopter crash, and the Coronavirus, we have made a pretty good round-up of the events to hold this year. So yes, we’re coming right out and asking you to watch it.

Personally, I think it’ll reduce the stress-lines around your eyes to a good extent. Watch here.
